We managed to grab some pain au chocolates before boarding the plane to Rome. They were amazing and I need to learn how to make them.
By the time we got off the plane, took the underground, and found our hotel it was around 10:30am. We booked it over to the Pantheon because it was the winter equinox and we heard that the light coming from the top of the Pantheon shone perfectly over the doorway and it only happened once a year. And we just happened to be there on the day it was suppose to happen! So we were really excited and we thought we were going to miss it. We got there and it wasn’t quite over the doorway yet. And by the looks of it, it didn’t look like it was going to be at all. We were a little disappointed, but it was still a very neat building.
Inside the Pantheon.
Loved all the flowers on the windowsill.
We walked A LOT in Rome. Next time, we'll figure out the buses. Other than the blisters, I didn't mind walking because we saw things we wouldn't have seen otherwise.
The Roman Forum was my favorite. How must it be to grow up in a country where there is so much history and ruins everywhere?! I can't imagine. I want to spend years in this country learning about it all.
Pretty arch.
We made sure to rest our feet by the best view points.
The Colosseum!
The view from inside.
And yet another view from the side.
I would usually get pretty loopy by mid afternoon. This is when the pictures would get interesting. We had some good laughs about ridiculously stupid things because we were so tired and jet lagged.
Just stopping in a field of daisies for a quick 5 min power nap.
It's decided. I need a hippie bus and a red fiat.
The cars there were so tiny! And the vespas were so cute.
Don't mind me, looking all touristy. We ate lots of gelato to help us get through the day. I think we ate 3 this day. My favorite flavors were grapefruit, salted carmel, and dark chocolate.
Ended the day with the Trevi Fountain. SO CROWDED! I cropped off everyones heads in this picture. ^
If you throw a coin over your right shoulder into the Trevi Fountain it means that you will one day return to Roma. I have no doubt that we will. Although I loved Rome, I loved some of the other cities so much more in Italy.
We were exhausted yet again by the end of the day so we taxied over to a pizza place we had looked up. You almost have to get a taxi while in Rome just for the experience. They drive crazy fast and you almost feel like your going to die, but it's so fun!
The pizza was gooood. I love thin crust, and they make it cracker thin. I went with a simple tomato basil pizza. Nick got a cheese one. Mine was better. We also tried a truffle cream crostini. First experience trying truffle. It was not good. But then we had it again a few days later and I liked it.
