Rome Day 2

The second day in Rome was spent at the Vatican. It was one of my favorite days.
Next time we travel, I'm going to hire a photographer so we get some decent pictures of ourselves in pictures. This guy didn't do too bad.
We spent a lot of time looking up that day. So many beautiful ceilings!
Inside the Sistine Chapel. This room surprised me. It was absolutely beautiful, but I wasn't expecting lots of small paintings. I thought there would be fewer, larger paintings on the walls and ceiling.
We climbed the dome and it was well worth the workout. That view was breathtaking!
Kissing Rome.
This picture overwhelms me because I want to explore it all, and that just will never happen.
Inside the Vatican Cathedral.
The inside of the dome we climbed.
Touching Saint Peters left foot.
The standing guards. How'd cha like that work outfit?
After the Vatican we had the rest of the day to wander, my favorite! We walked and walked and walked and got lost and it was marvelous.
I love how no matter where you go in Europe, you will most likely find something amazing.
Love the narrow streets and the scooters that zip by.
No explanation needed other then: awesome.
We found the best gelato place. There were 150 amazing flavors and it was packed full of locals and tourists so we knew it would be good. My favorite was the orange dark chocolate and the grapefruit. Mmm.
Nick the navigator. And he was really excited about the gelato.
We finished our looong day at the Spanish Steps. Which was the most disappointing. As you can see, chalk full of people and not all that cool. This and Trevi Fountain were just meh for me. Been there, done that kind of thing.

We went back to our hotel early and I sent Nick out on a pizza run to enjoy while we watched some Italian soap opera. Our room was located on a busy street so I put in my ear plugs, took a sleeping pill ,and slept great! We had to wake up the next morning at 4am the next day to catch our train to Gerfalco, where Nick's grandma was from and where we would meet Morena (Nick's dad's cousin) for the first time.
